FROM DISTRACTION TO OBSESSION
Over the past 6 months I hit a creative wall. In an effort to move forward on some larger canvases I decided to walk away from them. I took a break to clear my head. Then, as suggested by @nicholaswilton, I started playing with my art. Having some fun. I took up creating tiny 4" x 4" art. I painted on cardboard and scraps of wood laying around in my studio. It worked beautifully! I'm moving forward on my larger canvases. Although, I'm now obsessed with these tiny art pieces. They are so fun to work on.

I cannot remember or imagine a time in which I am not painting. Whether abstract, figurative or something in between, to permeate a canvas with what I am feeling or have been inspired or impressed by is, for me, what it means to be an artist. I have been influenced by a multitude of visual artists. A short list includes Anthony Murphy, Wolf Kahn, James Michalopoulos, Mark Rothko, Marc Chagall and Edvard Munch — in no particular order. Absolutely NOT a complete list! As a self-taught artist, I have used travel, especially to France and Italy, as both inspiration and education. In addition to visual artists, I take inspiration from an immense range of musicians, authors and composers.
My son, Maddan; losing myself in a canvas; hearing my partner laugh; our incredibly goofy dog, Samantha; being surprised by the ending of a book or film; small towns; large, old fashioned porches; 1967 VW bugs; Dogwood, Flowering Pear and Ginko trees; the sound of the sea; finding a new recipe I'm certain I cannot live without, and lunches that include good friends and bottles of Bordeaux.
