Somewhat abstract paintings by Emily Irene Tellez

Pushing paint has always been my passion.

I cannot remember or imagine a time in which I am not painting. Whether abstract, figurative or something inbetween, to permeate a canvas with what I am feeling or have been inspired or impressed by is, for me, what it means to be an artist. I have been influenced by a multitude of visual artists. A short list includes Anthony Murphy, Wolf Kahn, James Michalopoulos, Mark Rothko, Marc Chagall and Edvard Munch — in no particular order. Absolutely NOT a complete list! As a self-taught artist, I have used travel, especially to France and Italy, as both inspiration and education. In addition to visual artists, I take inspiration from an immense range of musicians, authors and composers.
